Surinder Kaur


Surinder pursued diploma in art and craft from the Jamia Millia Islamia University in 1968 and followed it with a graduate degree from the College of Art, New Delhi, in 1976. In 1975 she also joined Triveni Kala Sangam.

She has exhibited solo several times since 1987. Her recent exhibition titled Urban Realities was held at the Shridharani Gallery, New Delhi, in 2012. She has been participating in notable group shows since 1976. In 1990 she participated in the exhibition curated by then Ambassador of Netherlands, at the National Gallery of Modern Arts. In 1999 her works were a part of the Christies Auction in Mumbai. In 2010 she exhibited in Italy at the show ‘India Contemporanea – Focus on Culture, Economy & Society.’

Surinder was awarded the Senior Fellowship by the Ministry of HRD, Government of India for the years 1997-99. She won the Sahitya Kala Parishad awards in 1976, 78, and 79 and the AIFACS awards in 1976, 79, and 89.

Her works are in the collections of the National Gallery of Modern Art, New Delhi, Sahitya Kala Parishad, New Delhi, Lalit Kala Akademi, New Delhi, College of Art, New Delhi, Bharat Bhawan, Bhopal, Punjab University, Patiala, and several noted collections in France, UK, Netherlands, Italy, Canada, USA, and Spain.

Surinder lives and works in New Delhi.
